American indie maverick Henry Jaglom spent much of his career making films that thumbed their noses at Hollywoodโ€™s studio system. Now his 1980 mob-robbing road comedy Sitting Ducks is receiving the 4K coat of paint it probably doesnโ€™t deserve, but is getting anyway.

The plot is standard pulp absurdity: two small-time crooks steal a limousine full of mob cash, head for Miami, and dream of fleeing to Costa Rica while looking like total fucking idiots. The film, starring Jaglom himself alongside Michael Emil and Zack Norman, screens at New Yorkโ€™s Roxy Cinema on October 11 as part of the Downtown Festival.

Vinegar Syndrome, Hope Runs High and Cinรฉmatographe have teamed up on the restoration, scanning the original 35mm camera negative supplied by the Academy Film Archive and cleaning the film frame by frame.

If you happen to be in Manhattan and give a shit about 80s indie crime cinema, the screening kicks off at 6:00 pm, followed by a Q&A with Justin LaLiberty, Simon Jaglom and Adam Goldberg.
