Finnish metal band Soulgrind have released their new album, Ad Pulchram Mortem, today, August 14, through Inverse Records. The album follows a 15-year hiatus and draws heavily on Finnish folklore and the ancient mythology surrounding Tuonela, the realm of the dead.

Translated as โ€œtoward beautiful deathโ€, Ad Pulchram Mortem combines crushing doom riffs, raw black metal and haunting melodic passages, bringing the different elements together into a dark and atmospheric whole.

The album features Tanja Lilith on vocals, with Azhemin contributing melodies and growls, Lord on guitars and JP Immonen on bass. Newer members Suntio and Micko Hell also contribute to the current lineup, while longtime collaborator Jarno Hรคnninen of D-Studio handles the mixing, continuing a partnership with the band that stretches back to 2003.

For Soulgrind, the album is a continuation of the stories and experiences that have shaped the band, with the group describing it as the sound of their rebirth after their lengthy absence.

The band are already working on new material for future releases, while live shows are also being planned. Ad Pulchram Mortem is available now through Inverse Records.
