German black metal act Tabernakel have released their debut album Scheintaufe through Iconoclasm Conquest and Death Ecstasis Productions.

Created entirely by Ignis Nefandus, Scheintaufe spans eight tracks across nearly 50 minutes, combining harsh riffs, shadowy melodies and the uncompromising spirit of early black metal. The album draws from the atmosphere and intensity of the genre’s formative years while avoiding both exaggerated lo-fi aesthetics and overly polished modern production.

The production strikes a balance between rawness and clarity, allowing the harsher elements of the music to remain intact while giving the instrumentation room to breathe. Driving rhythms, bleak melodies and a sense of cold tension run throughout the record, capturing the spirit of a classic era without simply recreating it.

While inspired by the formative work of bands such as Immortal, Dødheimsgard, Ulver and Forgotten Woods, Scheintaufe focuses on the feeling behind that era rather than simply copying its surface. Tabernakel have created an album that looks back towards black metal’s early foundations while carving out its own identity.
