Newcomers Voidmaker are set to launch their debut A Cold, Unyielding Universe, an Extreme Metal concept album rooted in science fiction and cosmic dread. Scheduled for release on May 25th, via Witches Brew, the ten-track record explores humanity’s expansion beyond Earth and the terrifying unknowns of deep space. To preview the release, the band has shared the single The Post-Human Emergence, a track that chronicles humanity’s transition into a post-human entity through a high-intensity blend of Progressive Blackened Death Metal and intricate sci-fi storytelling.
The project is a collaboration between multi-instrumentalist Joe McAnaney and vocalist Tom McRann. Together, the duo crafts a narrative journey that spans from the opening track Starfall to the sprawling closer Wormhole / Lightchaser. Musically, the album shifts seamlessly across the Extreme Metal spectrum, incorporating elements of Blackened Thrash, Death Metal, and technical arrangements driven by fast riffing and progressive structures.
McAnaney commands the instrumentation, performing all guitar, bass, and drum tracking to establish the album’s technical foundation, while McRann delivers the harsh, urgent vocal delivery needed to convey the storyline’s cosmic scale. Tracks such as Project Infinity, Terminus, and Of Digital Creation highlight the band’s ability to navigate between raw speed, melody, and complex time signatures without losing sight of their overarching science fiction concept.
Prepare to explore the depths of space on May 25th.
